Quetiapine

Quetiapine Fumarate, 100 mg.

(Yellow/ Round/ Imprint: '100,' 'Q')









Overview:

Quetiapine belongs to the atypical antipsychotics which works by affecting chemicals in the brain such as dopamine and serotonin and is most commonly used to treat bipolar disorder and schizophrenia and it’s not approved for use in children younger than 10 years old.


Medical Uses:

Quetiapine is used for treating symptoms of schizophrenia, borderline personality disorder (bpd), and mania; bipolar.

Side-effects:

  1. feeling sleepy throughout the day

  2. headaches

  3. dizziness

  4. putting on weight/change to appetite

  5. fast heartbeat

Drug interactions:

anti-arrhythmic drugs (quinidine, procainamide, amiodarone…etc), antipsychotic drugs(ziprasidone, chlorpromazine, and thioridazine), antibiotics (gatifloxacin and moxifloxacin), pentamidine and methadone


Dosing:

adults usually start with 50 mg a day in the evening and the doctor may adjust the dose as needed but usually doesn’t cross 300mg per day, as for children use and dose must be determined by the doctor and it varies depending on the treatment.


Note:

Quetiapine is a strong drug that does have a potential for abuse if taken without a prescription or incorrectly so follow up with your doctor about the dosage and be careful with the way side effects take a toll on you.
